Thank you for writing this! I've been agonizing over the same question as well upon my second rewatch. The first time I saw it, I felt so conflicted about how to feel for Meg "losing" her tuition money. But I realize now that she could've collaborated with Marta and put some trust. After all, Marta perceived Meg to her friend and outright said she would give money to take care of her education. Unfortunately Meg cut her off in the phone call and didn't want to give any control to Marta. Meg turned out to be more attached to the privileges of her rich status and didn't think negotiating a compromise (of adjusting her lifestyle in the slightest) was really a possibility. Truly it is when something is at stake, we can show our true colors.
